The World Wide Open - Choices

I posted last night about Cinderita's latest venture. Please check out the post before this one. I don't want it to get lost in the shuffle.

I'm up at 4am writing because I've got something on my mind and it can't wait. I'm saddened by what spews from our mouths because we, as Americans, are entitled our freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is a gift, and we don't always  treat it as such. We were put on this earth to be individuals. As individuals we have our own, unique voices. We as individuals came together years ago to choose freedom of speech.

We have a choice ...

There's a fine line between standing up for what you believe in and voicing your opinion for the sole purpose of division...especially when it concerns people of power or fame.

YOU can choose to polarize just as easily as you can choose to unite. I'd be a hypocrite if I said that I only put out there that which unifies...but I am re-thinking my choices.

I don't normally re-post old poems, but just this once, please indulge me...This one is from December, 2011...

This is the place
Where sadness can go
In quiet desperation
Released into the world wide open

This is the place
Where hate can take form
Anger meets frustration
Released into the world wide open

This is the place
Where fear can roam
Dividing a great nation
Released into the world wide open

This is the place
Where courage can break through
An overnight sensation
Released into the world wide open

This is the place
Where hope can spread
With a little imagination
Released into the world wide open

This is the place
Where peace can run free
It's ours for creation
Released into the world wide open

There are so many avenues to be heard...what do you choose to release into this world wide open?

  1. What a beautiful poem. I try to spread positive thoughts out to the universe. I also try to stop myself from making dividing statements (not saying this always works). I read the book Wonder by RJ Palacio a few months ago and ever since then I am trying to be a little kinder than necessary each day. :)

    1. I will have to check out that book, Jess. Thank you for the compliment. It's hard not to get caught up in those dividing statements, isn't it? I'm not always successful either.

  3. Dear Stephanie, thanks for sending me over to Cinderita's blog and her awesomeness site. I'll continue to follow her because this new venture of hers can do so much good for the Universe.

And thank you also for that insightful poem. Mom used to say, "Dolores, if you can't say anything good about something, then just stay silent and think of something!" The end of your poem is not silent--it's filled with what we can say and do to create Oneness among all people. Thank you.

  4. It never ceases to amaze me how people can throw their arms up in outrage over a simple statement yet let an abused child go unnoticed. Or beat on their chest to say they are right without realizing that nobody cares!

    1. Tracy, we may not always have the same view points where religion and politics are concerned, but we certainly are cut from the same mold when it comes to human kindness and compassion for others. I love that we have that in common.

  7. The beauty of being an American is having the right to express ourselves even if everyone doesn't agree with our opinions.
I fear our freedoms are slowly being torn away one by one.
I loved this poem the first time you put it out and I still do. :)

  8. I think social media has both opened us and hurt us as a society. All too often young girls especially work so hard to achieve great things and just as fast as they achieve them, they are cut down by others for not looking just right, not being pretty, or being too happy about what they achieved. It's so sad.

It would be amazing if we could all put aside our own petty thoughts and opinions, and stop fighting for first place in a pissing match, rather than focusing on the larger purpose of not letting people piss in the park to begin with.

Does that make any sense? Because I'm all out of chocolate and it's been one of THOSE days... whatever... I know you get me. :)
