"I'd gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today." Wimpy from Popeye
I need connection with people. It's how I'm nourished. Emotions are a staple in my life. I count my relationships like calories. There have been times in my life where I filled myself up on empty relationships knowing full well I'd have to pay for the emotional deficiencies later. I became pale and listless.
"I'd gladly feel bad tomorrow for a connection today."
That person doesn't exist today for the most part, though I do have to fend off occasional cravings.
Thankfully, I'm no longer wimpy.
This is a great post! I love the deep reflections of yourself lately and the creative ways you've used to express them.
ReplyDeleteOn a lighter note, this blog brought to mind the trash bag commercial.
Don't be wimpy! wimpy! wimpy!
Get Hefty! Hefty! Hefty!
I have to fend off those cravings too.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that I can read about your strength. I need to be more like you, and just stay strong.
You are an amazing woman! And far from Wimpy. That cartoon was one of my favs by the way! Hugs.
ReplyDeleteNo point in empty relationships, might as well live in a cave.
ReplyDeleteI love this analogy.
ReplyDeleteI rememebr WAY back in the day, having this conversation with one of my guy friends and he said "Why do you have to marry them? Why can't you just have fun for now?"
And my reposnse was, "If they're not worth marring, they aren't worth my time."
Isn't it wonderful not to be "Wimpy" anymore? And you're strong enough to have a hamburger whenever you want--or to pass!
ReplyDeleteGreat way to view things.
ReplyDeleteI, however, am a "I'd rather be alone than in a room with 20 people" kind of person. The Wife and Kids get passes.
Dear Stephanie, Like Joshua, I'm somewhat of a loner. A true introvert who finds that groups of people tire me out. I've never been in love, but I have felt wimpy often, especially when I didn't speak up for myself. I felt likeI was a milquetoast kind of person--therefore, a wimp.
ReplyDeleteIt's good that you are feeling stronger. What's even better it that you are being gracious to yourself and embracing yourself just as you are.
Peace.
i like the rhythm of this a lot, and you got me thinking. it's the sort of quick hit piece i immediately read again. there's a certain toughness and wisdom acquired with experience.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to wimpy as well.
ReplyDeleteI like your reflective thinking--seeing the "wimpy" for who he/she really is.
Fishducky, I had a hamburger tonight...and I paid for it. Cheese and all...seriously, I'm talking about hamburgers not sex. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the positive feedback, everyone!
I was really feeling grumpy today, but I read through some of your posts, and I pushed those bad emotions away and felt good for a while. I'll come back when I start getting grumpy again. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteBothered - you are so welcome! And I loved your Grumpy post. Good stuff.
ReplyDeleteP. S. Thanks for the wonderful comment on my blog today. :) lol
