Stay with Me

Tonight is opening night at the theatre I take Peanut to. We've been going for about a year and a half now.

I believe the first show I took her to was Cinderella.

It was magical! There's nothing better than watching a child's face when they are introduced to live theatre. She sat at the edge of her seat the entire time, mesmerized. No wiggling around, no, "I want a snack"...She absorbed it all in and it left her wanting to see more.

I can remember my mom taking me to plays and musicals and even live Shakespeare at Viscaya in Miami. I want to say the first memory I have of stage acting was a children's theatre near Matheson Hammock Park in Coral Gables, FL. It was a much smaller production than what we saw and the actors involved the audience in the show. I still have the image of being there (tucked away with my other great childhood memories).

I can't be sure that Peanut's first theatre experience will be among her great childhood memories, but the delight on her face will always stay with me.

  2. As a theatre person, I approve of this message. We take the kids to stuff all the time, and for the most part they're pretty good. Glad to see you taking Peanut.

  3. I LOVE the theater! I try to take my kids about once or twice a year but they also get to be in one or two shows a year, so they get plenty :)

  4. Someday Peanut might be inspired to become part of the cast of a play and then she'll get the memory of your face lit up while you watch her on stage for the first time :)

  6. When my now 20 year old granddaughter was about 5, I decided to take her to her first live theater, "Beauty & the Beast". I told her that it was like a movie but that there were real people on stage who sang & danced, & that EVERYONE wore costumes. She thought for a minute & then said, "I guess I could wear my costume from Halloween". KIDS ARE SO LITERAL!

  7. I love the theater. Jilda and I saw some shows on Broadway in New York the last time were were there.
We've also caught several here locally. We took our great nieces and nephews to see the Nutcracker last year and it was a hoot.

  10. I'm a theater fan too! I took Girl Child to see her first play (Sleeping Beauty) and she had a very similar reaction.

I'm going to miss her... I hope God blesses me with another little girl some day.

  11. I love the theater. That look Peanut had on her face is always on mine when I go watch any show. Love to get lost in the story. So glad you took her and she enjoyed it.

  12. Dear Stephanie, Years ago I used to take the two young daughters of friends to the Children's Theater in Minneapolis. For about four years, we saw six performances a year.

Often we'd go out in the fields and act out what we'd seen. I think they still love live theater because of this early viewing.

Like "Princess" and "Joshua," I hope Peanut likes theater so much that she'll want to be part of the cast. What a wonder that would be.

    Peace.

  13. Lil Dreamer - I do believe you will have another child to share the theatre with and so much more...but I'm still sad it's not with your hubby and girl child. Hugs!
Melynda and Dee - We had a great time and she really enjoyed it, as did I.

Oh, and she's already acting out scenes...I knew she would, she's mine.
