When You Write

Hello, my trusty blog...how I've missed you this week!

Work was busy, oh sure, but, truth is, I needed a little break. I've learned that's what I need to do when I'm too enmeshed. I was relying on you too much. Now it's time for me to give some of that back, time for me to show how much I cherish you...

With no hopes of anything in return, this I say to you....

I thank you for being my link to the rest of the world at a time when I needed you...you kept me connected.

I thank you for giving me a safe place to say what's on my mind ...you helped me release the joy and (too often times) sadness when it overflows from my heart.

I thank you for accepting me...your graciousness helped build my character and open my mind.

I thank you for standing beside me...you let me stumble last year, and stood by patiently as I redefined your purpose.

I thank you for being my reflection.

What do you see in yourself when you write?

  1. Writing is a problem solver for me. So many times I write when I am upset and the answer to what is "really" bothering me comes to the surface. Writing is like truth serum for me.

I feel honored to be a small part of your blog life which has helped you in so many ways!

  2. Welcome back! I've missed your suspiciously sweet comments and whatnot around the interweb. I suspect you actually dress up as a superhero and fight crime at night with some scary and awesome name, like "Hellcat" or something, so your daytime persona has to be nice and sweet.

So that was a tangent... Glad you're back! Yay!

  3. I'm glad your back. I've missed you.
For me it is a release. I don't really care if people hate what I write. It's nice to just write it. So now you know my little naughty secret. I write for me first then others. That's very wrong I know. lol Hey sat I'm doing an interview with my husband I think you will find um interesting. haha

  5. When I was away at the weekend I really missed my blog and everyone that is part of it! Only a person that blogs will really understand that. Writing and my blog is becoming a drug I have to have.

Welcome back my lovely special person! : )

  6. What a lovely post! You address your blog as a dear, ever constant friend and, although most of us wouldn't have thought of our own blogs that way, I guess you're quite right. It's rather a refreshing point of view and shows that, as with Melynda, you write for yourself first and foremost.

Welcome back! Hope all is well, otherwise :)

  7. Thanks for all the words of welcome...we bloggers are a special breed, aren't we? Warms the heart.

Maxwell, thanks for the laugh...no super hero by night powers for me...though I suspect The Peanut might have some.

  8. I think Maxwell is a little closer to the truth than he thinks as you appear to be the mild and meek Clark Kent but turn into Wild Thing just when we think we have you figured out. LOL!

  10. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm right. Only people with super powers are so quick to deny them... plus, Tracy is totally with me on this point.

  11. Writing for me is a way to document and apprreciate the live I have. Sometimes it's so easy to get lost in the details of every day.

    And without sounding vain...

On my worst days, the days I don't feel fit to be a mother, much less a human being, writing makes me see that I am amazing just the way I am.

So in short... it's all about me. :)

  12. For myself I find that writing helps me know what I think. The words sort of come, helter-skelter, willy-nilly, rushing forward onto the page. Ah, so that's what's in my mind! That's what I think about thus and so. This and that.

And I'm generally surprised and often pleased and sometimes saddened. Then I go back and edit so as to get to the essence of the piece. So writing is a way of coming home to myself. Of finding myself.

Thank you, Stephanie, for asking the question and getting us all to think about why we write.

  13. So awesome! This is an amazing, insightful post. I love the idea of "the reflection."

I guess what I see are my true reactions to everything, and who I really am.

  15. So glad you are back! For as long as you are back! No pressure, I am here to be a mirror if needed :-)

My writing…Hmmmm….I see demons! I write to get them out of my head. So many ideas, so many thoughts, so many mental traffic jams! Writing is the traffic cop of the mind.

  17. For me, writing helps me sort out what I've seen and how I see it.

:-) Things always look different on paper.
